Fruits: Learning opportunities during the dormant season

The dormant season is a time filled with conferences, webinars, and workshops for growers to continue their education, along with everything else that comes up as a priority during this time. 

Below are a few opportunities for continued education with fruit farming. 

Minnesota Apple Growers Association Conference

Description: This two-day conference is specific to apple production and goes over a number of topics relevant to commercial growers including breeding updates from UMN, information about trellising, roostocks, and more!

Minnesota Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association Conference

Description: A conference that supports a variety of education related to vegetable and fruit production with a wide variety of topics.

UMN Extension session: Introduction to apple production

UMN Women in Ag Network Conference

Description: This conference welcomes beginning, future and long-time farmers, those in the agricultural industry, educators, and farming enthusiasts. Its focus is on farm business management and production.

UMN Extension session: A working session for an introduction to fruit production

UMN/SARE Working for Agriculture Training

Description: This comprehensive one-day program is designed for farmers who currently employ labor or are considering hiring help. This workshop focuses on practical, actionable tools for farm operations. It will equip participants with the confidence and knowledge necessary to make informed labor decisions that contribute to a more sustainable farm. Registration fees are covered by SARE.

UMN Extension Fruit and Veg Webinar Series

Description: Hosted at noon on Wednesday all winter long by the UMN Extension food systems team. These webinars are focused on the finer points of fruit and vegetable production. Each week will cover a technical topic related to the successful management of fruit and vegetable crops, from planning to irrigating to managing pests. The target audience is small to medium sized farmers, as well as aspiring farmers.

Multi-state Grape Webinar Series 

Description: This webinar series is housed through Purdue Extension, but is a multi-state collaboration to provide information relevant to commercial grape growers. UMN Extension will be helping to facilitate the topics.

Marbleseed Conference

Description: A regional conference to learn about organic strategies for fruit and vegetable production. This conference will have a variety of fruit-related content.

UW Fruit Team Cold Climate Webinar Series

Description: Fruit production topics led by Cornell and Penn State researchers with a focus on disease management for apples.
