The Sustainable Farming Association's Superior Chapter is hosting two fruit-related field days this coming week. Both field days will be on-farm, this Sunday afternoon and next Thursday afternoon in the Duluth area:

Join Locally Laid farmers and UMN Extension fruit specialist Annie Klodd for this field day all about berries. We will see their honeyberries, raspberries, blueberries and strawberries, and discuss the latest tools and research for spotted-wing drosophila (SWD) and organic weed management in perennial plantings.

IPM for Organic Apple Orchards

Geared towards backyard and beginning growers of all skill levels. Farmer Cindy Hale will present an overview of issues related to growing healthy fruit trees and controlling pests and diseases throughout the season with IPM and organic management. We will cover the life cycles of the plants, pests and diseases; the phenology of your orchard so you can decide when or what to spray and more importantly when NOT to spray. Learn about “degree days” and how to do back of the envelope calculations just using daily high & low temperatures to understand what is happening in your orchards and how to predict the future!
